Lois Brown Smith

December 16, 1924 — November 10, 2023

Littleton, Massachusetts

Lois Brown Smith passed away on November 10, 2023, at the age of 98, in her hometown of
Littleton, Massachusetts. A lifelong resident of Littleton, Lois spoke fondly of growing up on her
family’s farm with her parents Clarence and Katherine Connell Brown, her brother Dick, and
their dog, Frosty.

Lois attended St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana and upon returning to Littleton married
her first husband Howard Sullivan. While raising four young children after Howard’s unexpected
death, Lois met and married Herbert Smith with whom she had another son. Lois and Herb
loved traveling together and dancing with friends on Saturday nights. Lois retired after working
for many years as a postal worker in Littleton.

Throughout her lifetime, Lois was a proud fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish intercollegiate
football team and on many weekends and evenings she could be found watching a Patriots or
Red Sox game. Lois loved to travel, a pastime that she continued long after Herb’s death. Her
most treasured traveling memories were of the Greek Islands although she reminisced about
Australia and New Zealand, Honduras, and Canada. Some of her all-time favorite stories were
about her California travels with son-in-law Max.

Husbands Howard Sullivan and Herbert Smith, brother Richard Brown, and beloved son-in-law
Edwin “Eddie” Rideout predeceased Lois. She will be missed by her children Irene and Bobbie
Dowling of California, Craig Sullivan of Groton, Leah Rideout of Nashua & Nova Scotia, Jean
and Max Frigault of California, and David and Joanne Smith of Littleton, and dear friend Holly
Estes. Lois leaves behind grandchildren Jeffrey Yao, Casey Dowling, Leah Berg, Tamara
Fagan, Jason Sullivan, Michael Smith, and Christopher Smith, numerous great grandchildren
and great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff of Brookhaven Hospice for their compassion and
support. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Brookhaven Hospice, 114
