Lois Hilda Underwood, 93, of Groton and former longtime Harvard resident, passed away at her home surrounded by her family and beloved kitty on Sunday, August 19, 2018. She was the loving wife of the late Bayard Underwood, who passed in 2010.
Lois was born on June 7, 1925 in Ashland, OK, a daughter to the late Bert and Rena (Scott) Londagin. She spent her early years in Oklahoma and Texas before moving to East Boston in the 1940s, marrying her first husband, and having her first child, Donna.
Lois and Bayard married in 1956 in Cambridge. They lived in Concord before moving to Harvard where they lived for many years. They moved to Groton Center in 1983. They were active and involved members of both communities. It was at their home in Groton where they would run their small art gallery, "Studio One." Lois took up painting as a hobby later in life and become an accomplished watercolor artist. Friends will recall the personalized thank you cards hand painted by Lois for her 90th birthday party in 2015. Each individually made to express her sincere love for those in attendance. Many will remember Lois, and Bayard, for their epic parties, including the annual Halloween bash, which she held every year up until this past Halloween. Being a horticultural enthusiast, Lois enjoyed gardening and wildflowers. She was an active and long-standing member of the Harvard and Groton Garden Clubs. Lois was a loving and loyal mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
The family wishes to thank the many friends and professionals who helped out, provided great company, and enriched her life in so many ways during her final years. She was fortunate to be able to visit with some of them in her last hours.
