Lorraine Theresa Atkins, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away suddenly at her home on February 10, 2026. Her life was rich in faith and family – the two most important things to her.
Lorraine was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on May 25, 1945, to Albert and Rachel (Masicotte) Vaillancourt. She grew up in Lowell, where she excelled in school and was a tomboy – she loved to play baseball with the boys in the neighborhood and had a paper route. She graduated from St. Louis Franco-American Academy in Lowell and began working as a secretary at Hanscom Air Force Base.
Lorraine met Harvey Atkins Jr. at the Mohawk Club in 1966. After numerous rejections, she finally agreed to a date after seeing Harvey with another girl. The two had dinner at the Wagon Wheel, hit the dance floor, and the rest is history – they married on October 5, 1968, at St. Marie’s Church in South Lowell.
The couple purchased land on Newtown Road in Littleton and began building their forever home. Lorraine gave up the office life and made raising three children and managing Harvey’s carpentry business her full-time jobs.
After the children headed out on their own, Lorraine went back to work in accounting, ending her career at Littleton Lumber before “retiring” in 2012. Retirement for Lorraine meant taking care of Harvey (a full-time job in itself!), endless projects at home and the Maine cottage, and enjoying her three grandsons, Jake, Noah, and Matthew. Lorraine loved being their “Grammy” and one of her greatest joys was spending time with them.
Lorraine was lucky enough to travel to many places with Harvey – California, Alaska, Hawaii, England, France, Germany, Italy, Jerusalem, Egypt, and Tunisia, among others.
She also loved practicing her faith, dancing with Harvey, watching birds out the front window, and playing cards and Yahtzee. She also enjoyed bingo with all of her friends at the senior center.
Lorraine is survived by her loving husband, Harvey; her children, Valerie Kelly and her husband Kit, Susan Atkins, and David Atkins; grandsons Jake, Noah, and Matthew Franchi; brothers Donald and George Vaillancourt, and brother-in-law Frank Kalil. She was predeceased by her mother, father, and her sister, Claire Kalil.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Lorraine on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton. Her funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM, at Blessed Trinity Parish - St. Anne Church, 75 King St., Littleton, followed by her burial in Westlawn Cemetery, 7 New Estate Rd., Littleton, MA.
