Marie Rafferty Baker

Marie Rafferty Baker ? Aged 93, long-time Littleton resident Marie Rafferty Baker, widow of the late Henry H. Baker, Jr., died peacefully at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley on Foster St. in Littleton, Mass. on Sunday, August 17.
A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be held this Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Anne Parish, 75 King St., Littleton, Mass.
Marie was born in Worcester, Mass. on May 28, 1921 to Katherine Rogers Rafferty and Charles Arthur Rafferty. The oldest of five, she grew up in Worcester and graduated from Worcester North High School, Massachusetts School of Art (BA Art Education), and UMass Amherst (M. Ed). She taught in the Amherst school system until 1957.
Shortly after the end of the Second World War, she met her future spouse through his sister, Ruth. They married in 1957 and moved to Littleton where they raised three children, Mary, Kathy, and Hal.
She was a faithful parishioner at St. Anne's and an active member of the Sodality for almost 50 years. She taught CCD, illustrated several parish publications, and served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister.
She was a substitute art teacher for several years until she opened the Littleton Gallery in 1974 with partners. While she worked at the gallery, and after its closing in 1983, she also taught small classes in watercolor and acrylics out of her home.
She was active in the town of Littleton through Girl Scouting, the Littleton 1975 Bicentennial Committee, and Littleton Country Gardeners.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hank, and her siblings, Charles A. Rafferty, Jr., Walter F. Rafferty, Kathleen A .Rafferty, and Roger J. Rafferty, as well as loved sisters- and brother in-law, Betty Jean Rafferty, Patricia Rafferty, Ruth Baker Munro, and Robert Kent.
She is survived by Mary and Samuel Wiley of Middletown, Rhode Island, Katherine and Christopher Lovell of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, and Henry (Hal) Baker of Littleton, Mass. She is also survived by her grandsons; Henry and Francis Wiley and Eric and Graham Lovell, and her "fifth grandson," her grand-nephew, Patrick Salmon.
She leaves behind her sisters- and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Richard Baker of Rindge, N.H., Duncan W. Munro of Northborough, Mass., and Margaret Baker Kent of Wells, Maine.
She loved her many nieces and nephews and their spouses: Susan and Paul Miller of Billerica, Mass., Maureen Rafferty of Oakland, Calif., Elizabeth Rafferty of Boston, Mass., Michael Rafferty (deceased), Tom and Pam Rafferty of Wareham, Mass., Timothy Rafferty (deceased), Patrick Rafferty and Kathryn Bisack of Falmouth, Mass., Walter Rafferty, of Worcester, Mass., Mary Kathryn and Phil Salmon of Worcester, Mass., Richard Baker and Leisa Mingo of West Newbury, Mass., John and Betsy Baker of West Boylston, Mass., Margaret and John Aldrich of Holliston, Mass., Tom and Janice Baker of Auburn, N.H., Bill Baker of Rindge, N.H., Mary and Kevin Westcott of Farmington, Conn., Henry and Julie Baker of Newton, Mass., Lilly and Richard Conley of Wells, Maine, Laura and Rick Barra of Wells, Maine, Tim and Nanette Kent of Wells, Maine, Dan and Wendy Kent of Fairfax, Va., and many great nieces and nephews.
