Marjorie J. Eisenberg

Marjorie J. (Portugal) Eisenberg, 99, of Concord died peacefully on January 8, 2016 after a brief illness. She was born in New York City, daughter of the late Isidore and Anna (Simpson) Portugal and beloved wife of the late Walter Eisenberg, who died in 1998. Marjorie is survived by her sons Richard Eisenberg and his wife Catherine Grossman of Pleasantville, NY, and Paul Eisenberg and his wife Lisa Eisenberg of Harvard, MA; by her grandchildren Emily Morley and her husband Timothy Morley, and Andrew, Rachel, Daniel, Jack and Julia Eisenberg; and by her great-granddaughter Sarah Morley.


 Marjorie grew up in New York and studied violin with Paul Stassevich at the Mannes School and later with Hans Letz at the Julliard Graduate School where she held a four year fellowship.


 She was a member of the Adolph Busch Chamber Orchestra in New York and was soloist and member of numerous chamber organizations. She was a member of the Pittsburgh Symphony under Fritz Reiner, the Denver Symphony under Saul Caston and the Chautaqua Symphony under Franco Autori. Marjorie was Concertmaster of orchestras under her husband’s direction, including the Colorado Springs Symphony, Pueblo Civic Symphony, Denver University Symphony, and the Cape Ann and Nashua, New Hampshire Symphonies. She also played with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra under Arthur Fiedler and was a teacher of many outstanding students of violin and viola in the Boston area.


 


A Memorial Service will be held at Newton Cemetery Chapel on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 1:30 pm.   Relatives and friends are kindly invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marjorie’s name to a charity of choice. Please visit www.badgerfuneral.com
