Martin R. "Marty" Beck, age 72, former Chairman of the Pepperell Planning Board died unexpectedly on March 28th at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Jane F. (Keegan) Beck with whom he shared 39 years of marriage.

He was born in Quincy, MA on May 9, 1938, the son of the late John and Edith (Purdy) Beck. He graduated from North Quincy High School and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He later earned an Associates Degree in Land Surveying from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Prior to his retirement, he was a chemical engineer for 30 years at Cabot Corporation in Billerica. While living in Pepperell for the past 35 years, he served on many town committees. Marty served as Vestry Clerk for the Church of the Good Shepherd in Nashua, NH. He was past master of the Wollaston Lodge and a member of the transportation unit of Aleppo Shriners. His hobbies included woodworking and flying his antique airplane. He was most proud of visiting 78 countries and all continents.

Besides his wife of 39 years, he leaves his nieces and nephews, John Keegan, Jr., Amy Cardoso, Kristin Hunt and Harry Keegan IV; ten grandnieces and grandnephews; two brothers-in-law, Harry Keegan and wife Frances and John Keegan and wife Christine as well as many dear friends in Pepperell.

Visiting hours at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 214 Main Street, Nashua, NH with the Reverend Dr. Robert W. Odierna officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Marty's name to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 214 Main Street, P. O. Box 412, Nashua, NH 03061.
