Mary Rose Collins, affectionately known as Mom, Grammy, or Gigi, passed away peacefully in Concord, MA, on May 27, 2025, at the age of 93. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles W. Collins, Jr., who passed away in 1990. Mary was born on November 24, 1931, in Concord, MA, daughter of the late Carlo and the late Cinderella (DeGrappo) Angelosanto.
Mary’s heart belonged to her family, who were central to her life. She cared deeply about her children and their partners: Marie Whalen (Phil), Richard White (Diana), Fawn Baker (Steve), and Steven White (Jennie), all of whom survive her and cherish the wisdom, support, and humor she generously gave them. Mary was exceptionally proud of her role as grandmother to 13 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 14 great-grandchildren, whose birthdays she never once missed.
She could always be counted on to cheer for each of their accomplishments, grieve for their losses, and pray for the well-being of every member of her family. She was also survived by her dear friend Paul Lehman, who has been a source of humor and support throughout the years. Throughout her life, Mary wore many hats — parent, grandparent, florist, cake decorator, and she even took part in history when she worked soldering the panels for the Apollo 11 rocket.
Mary was direct, honest, and always had a mischievous twinkle in her eye. She passionately embraced life, whether painting and creating colorful crafts, birdwatching, nurturing her plants, playing the piano, or camping alongside her beloved Charlie and her children in their cherished old Volkswagen van. If she was with her family or creating something to bring joy to her family, she was happy. Throughout her life, Mary was actively engaged in her community. At her apartment complex, and in the past at her local Senior Center, she was known for crafting joyful, festive displays for the holidays. She was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Mary’s life at a visitation on Monday, June 2, 2025, from 4-7 PM, at Badger Funeral Home, 45 School St., Groton, MA. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the serene MacPhail Cemetery in Owls Head, ME.
