Mary Concetta Fitzgerald

April 24, 1924 — January 22, 2015

Mary Concetta (DeNicola) Fitzgerald, of Pepperell, MA, 90, a long-time resident of Kennebunk ME and of Chelmsford MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2015. She was the beloved mother of John L. Fitzgerald of Holliston, MA and Maura Fitzgerald-Pinque of Groton, MA and pre-deceased by her husband John J. Fitzgerald.

Born on April 24, 1924 in East Boston, MA she was a daughter of the late Luigi and Anna (Marano) DeNicola, and graduated from East Boston High School in 1941. Mary later moved to Somerville and began her career as a manager at Liberty Mutual Insurance in Boston, MA. She went on to obtain her business degree and took additional classes at Harvard University. Mary later opened her own real estate company and was the main proprietor and broker of Village Rentals in Chelmsford, MA.

Upon her retirement, Mary moved to Kennebunk ME with her husband John and became very active at St. Anthony's Franciscan Monastery and Guest house in Kennebunkport ME where she made many life-long friends. Mary was one of the champions in saving the Monastery from local land developers, an achievement she was very proud of. In recent years, Mary moved back to Massachusetts to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Mary was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Parish in Pepperell, MA and a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. She enjoyed spending time at the Pepperell Senior Center, making many good friends there. Mary loved her house plants as well as cooking and knitting, having honed her knitting and sewing skills after attending seamstress school as a young woman in Boston, MA.

In addition to her children, Mary is survived by her sister Clementine Jamgochian of Peabody, MA, daughter-in-law Lisa Fitzgerald, son-in-law Vincent Pinque, grandchildren Megan and Tom Fitzgerald, and Matthew and Samantha Pinque, and many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.


Calling hours are 1-4PM on Monday January 26 at Badger Funeral Home, 45 School Street, Groton MA, 01450, 978-448-6782. A funeral Mass will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Anthony's Franciscan Monastery & Guest House, 28 Beach Ave., Kennebunk, ME 04043 or the Parmenter Hospice Residence Parlin House, 10 Green Way, Wayland, MA 01778.
