Mary Elizabeth Nelson

Mary Elizabeth Nelson, née Chiasson, 86, and long-time resident of Littleton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, in Framingham, Massachusetts. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Carl Alexander Nelson.

Mary was born on September 16, 1939, in Thibodaux, Louisiana, to Ashton Chiasson Sr. and Jessie Dunshie Chiasson. Raised in Lockport, Louisiana, she graduated from Lockport High School in 1956. She attended Nicholls Junior College in Thibodaux until marrying Carl in 1957. Afterward, they relocated to Massachusetts, Carl's home state, and were longtime residents of Littleton.

Mary was an administrator for Gallant Insurance Agency in Acton, Massachusetts, until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling around New England with Carl and photographing historic sites and nature. She also collected pewter, colonial New England-themed pieces, and cat curios. Mary dearly loved her cats, who were part of the family. She had a heart for all pets and strays, and was a dedicated supporter of the Humane Society.

Mary is survived by her nieces and nephews Celeste Clouate Daigle (Dirk) and Celeste's daughters Shelby and Rileigh; Allison Clouate Walker (Tom) and Tom's children/Allison's stepchildren Abby, Tommy, and Jacob; Joan Chiasson, John Chiasson (Jenny) and their daughter Skyler; Jennifer Chiasson Coward (James) and their children Caleb and Madeleine; Claude Chiasson, and Christopher Chiasson. In addition to her parents and her husband Carl, Mary was predeceased by her siblings Ashton Chiasson Jr., Helen Chiasson Clouate, and John Chiasson.

Mary is dearly loved and missed, and will be remembered as a good daughter, sister, wife, aunt, grandaunt, friend, neighbor, and cat mom. Her family is grateful for Mary’s dedicated caregivers, Lina, Anny, Rilary, and Tânia, as well as her good friend Roland, for visiting and looking after her so well.

Private burial to be held at Green Cemetery in Carlisle, Massachusetts.
