Mary (Burns) Scriven

October 28, 1932 — December 11, 2021

Mary M. Scriven age 89 and longtime resident of Groton passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Bridges assisted living facility in Pembroke. She was the loving wife of the late Lawrence Scriven.

Mary was born in Newton, Massachusetts on October 28, 1932, the daughter of the late Joseph and Edith (Littlefield) Burns. Raised and educated in Newton, Mary attended Newton High School and graduated in 1949.

Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great grandmother. While raising her loving family, Mary very much enjoyed her lifelong career as a benefit specialist at Emerson Hospital. Always independent and tireless, Mary was an active member of the Fitchburg YMCA. She visited several times a week to socialize, exercise and volunteer. She also loved having lunch with the ladies from the YMCA and remained active there late into her life.

Above all, family was the center of Mary's life. She cherished time spent with family and watching her children and grandchildren raise families of their own. She was always there to help her family and was very generous with her time. Mary is loved and will be missed by all.

Mary is survived by her children; Kathleen Haywood and her husband Richard of West Towsend, Brenda Ferguson of Groton, and Patrick Brickley of Groton, Laurie Saunders and Linda Smith both of Maine. Her grandchildren; Heather Gleason of Lunenburg, Jessica Sarsfield of Sutton, Kathleen Jordan of Townsend, Jacob Stapel of Waterville, ME, Jason Stapel of Phillipston, Crystal Ferguson of Wareham, Cylee Ferguson of Fall River, Tessa Weaver of Ipswich, Nicholas Brickley of Townsend, Jonathan Brickley of Rio Rancho, NM, Nicole Brickley of Rio Rancho, NM, Colleen Valdez of Rio Rancho, NM, Heidi Busby of Buckeye, AZ, John Saunders of Richmond, ME, Jacen Saunders of Freeport, ME, Christine Mason of Richmond, ME and Amy Pinkham of Richmond, ME, her 37 great grandchildren; Darion, Jane, Hunter, Connor, Preston, Andrew, Ana, James, McKenzie, Joseph, Gabriel, Kalyn, Miracle, Davien, Dalen, Desmond, Zachary, Graham, Noel, Autumn, Logan, Cameron, Leah, Wesley, Adam, Lexi, Isaiah, Jaxon, Malakai, Caidance, Ellie, Lucas, Kayla, Ben, Hunter, Olivia, and Sophie. She is also survived by her three great, great grandchildren, Addison, Winter, and Serenity. In addition to her parents, Mary is predeceased by her son Michael Brickley and her sister Ruth Clark.

Family and Friends will gather to honor and remember Mary for a period of visitation on Saturday, December 18, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School Street, Groton. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. Mary will be laid to rest following the service in Groton Cemetery.
