It is with profound sadness that the family of Matthew John Giaimo announces his passing on Saturday, May 26th, 2018 at the age of 38 years at his home in Stoneham, MA.
Matt will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by everyone he met, but most especially by all his nieces and nephews who adored him for his exuberant persona and his air-tosses that exhilarated them all. He is survived by his mother and step-father Roberta and Brent Maugel of Littleton, his father and step-mother John and Janet Giaimo of Ayer; his loving sister Melissa Manno and her husband Joe and children Justin, Evan and Olivia of Littleton MA; and his brother Bryan and his wife Nicole and son Jack of Wilmette, Illinois. Matt was particularly close with his step-brother Nathan Maugel and his wife Jennifer and children Brayden, Madison, and Harper of East Hampstead NH, and his step-sister Sarah Maugel Lane and her husband Mike and daughter Lila of Dedham.
Matt was an extraordinarily talented heavy equipment operator, a member of Boston's Union of Operating Engineers Local 4 and was well known for his expertise in utility infrastructure excavation and fine grading projects at Harvard University, MIT, Boston College and Logan Airport.
Matt had a larger than life personality that overtook every room he walked into. His booming voice, big bear hugs, and loud and humorous stories defined his charming personality. He was known for always taking meticulous care of his machines, vehicles and home. He was an avid weightlifter who proudly displayed colorful tattoos. He was adventuresome with many high-speed hobbies such as hockey, skiing, snowboarding, four-wheeling, zip-lining and sky diving.
Matt was passionately devoted to his family, attending with gusto all family holidays, birthdays and sporting events. He was loved dearly by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Above all, he was a wonderful, loving son who would visit often with a joyful spirit and a giving heart. He was kind and would do anything at any time to help his parents, relatives and friends.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Matt for a memorial service on Friday, June 1 at 4:00 pm at the Groton Country Club, 94 Lovers Lane, Groton, a reception will follow until 8:00 pm. All are welcome to attend.
