Michael Craig Auman

Michael C. Auman, 52, of Ashby and Groton, MA, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was the beloved son of Craig and Marilyn (Mousel) Auman.

Michael faced many challenges of Autism from birth. From the age of two to five, Michael spent many happy days living in Taipei, Taiwan with his family. His amah, Sue Wu, would take him to her home village where his presence was considered good luck. Michael was an avid reader. One of his favorite activities was going to Barnes and Noble with his family, where he would spend hours looking at books for his private library. He lost his vision later in life and switched from books to audiobooks. He was fascinated with large animals and found much enjoyment in horseback riding at the Equestrian Center in Westfield, MA.

Through the years, Michael had many educational opportunities as well as dedicated teachers who taught him sign language, finger spelling, and using an electronic voice. He attended The Ludlow Massachusetts Language Institute, Wilbraham Special Education, Groton Special Education, Mithelle Sonda & Hisayo Kaihara M.D. in Tokyo, Japan, and Aspire Living & Learning. Aspire was a place where Michael had many friends and looked forward to going every day.

In addition the his parents, Michael is also survived by his aunts Elaine (Sam) Sirovina, Sherron (William) Short, and numerous cousins.
