Michelle (Bernier) Hatch

January 15, 1953 — May 15, 2021

Michelle (Bernier) Hatch, 68 and a longtime Littleton resident passed away peacefully on May 15, 2021 surrounded by family. Michelle was born in Waterville, Maine, the eldest daughter of Albert and Shirley Bernier. She was the beloved wife of Roger Hatch. She is survived by her husband, Roger; her children, Rachel Hatch, Nicole Farley, Lydia Hatch, and Aaron Hatch; her grandchildren Edward (Teddy) Farley, Evelyn Farley, and Bruce Schramm; her six siblings, Maureen Jakubson, David Bernier, Maryanne Bernier, Paul Bernier, Margaret Boyd, and Dan Bernier; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She attended Mount Merici Academy and then Colby College, graduating in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in history. Michelle met her husband Roger during their first year at Colby, and they married in Waterville in 1977. They moved to Littleton, Massachusetts in 1987. They enjoyed 44 years of marriage together, a marriage their children view as an exemplary partnership.

While her children were young, Michelle provided neighborhood day care. From 2001-2011, she served as the Religious Education Coordinator grades 7-10 at St. Anne Parish in Littleton; from 2011-2019, she worked as the Religious Education Director at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Sudbury.

Michelle was a devout Catholic; a gardener; an avid walker; a swimmer; an embroiderer; and a museum-goer. She was an intrepid, all-weather camper; a canoeist of Maine's Belgrade Lakes; a beachcomber; and an architect of gentle mischief. A reader and a keen observer of nature, she shared these interests with her husband and seeded them in her children. Michelle's love of history extended to the chronicles of her French-Canadian and Irish-American families often bantered among her parents and siblings on summer trips to the family camp. Michelle was a tireless mother and devoted grandmother, who adored her role as "Mémère." She will be remembered for her quiet elegance and the steadfast calm and sense of humor that led her family to look to her for counsel and leadership.
