Morris "Mo" Phinney

July 24, 1934 — January 18, 2019

Morris Phinney, Jr., age 84, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at his home in Groton, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 24, 1934 in Boston, Massachusetts to Morris and Jennie (Johnson) Phinney. Morris "Mo" attended Middlesex Academy, where he was captain of the football team, and he graduated from Harvard University in 1956, his father's alma mater. Mo was also a Freemason for 52 years and a member of Tahattawan Lodge. Mo started his own company, Universal Laminates, in 1967.

Mo married Karen Jean Albertson on October 4, 1975. He had four children with his late wife, Judith, and Mo and Karen had one son. They moved to Groton, Massachusetts in 1993 and they spent their summers on Tuckernuck Island. Mo and Karen enjoyed spending time with family and friends and traveling the world together. They shared a special connection, especially with their love of music and the piano. When asked the meaning of life, Mo commented, "love and family….if you find the first, you will find the second." Mo found his love and loved his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Karen; sons Morris III, John (Kara), and Harry "Hap" (Katherine); daughters Jennifer (Tim) and Sarah (Neil); sister Ruth; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Family and friends can gather to honor and remember Mo for a memorial service at the Dunstable Evangelical Congregational Church, 518 Main St., Dunstable on Saturday April 27, 2019 at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tuckernuck Land Trust, 6 Ash Lane, 2nd Floor, Nantucket, Massachusetts 02554.
