Nancy Hayes Joslin, 82, of Concord, Massachusetts
Ms. Nancy Hayes Joslin, 82, of Concord, Massachusetts passed away peacefully after a long illness on Saturday, July 8, 2015 at Life Care of Acton. Ms. Joslin was born on November 25, 1933 to Margaret Roper Joslin and Frank Richardson Joslin and was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Judy Joslin, and her brother, Robert Joslin.
Ms. Joslin was a graduate of Lexington High School and Mount Holyoke College. She graduated with her Masters in Elementary Education from Boston University in 1955 and was a Fulbright Scholar in London, England from 1963 to 1964. Ms. Joslin taught in Cohasset, before she began teaching fourth and fifth grades at the Douglas and the Merriam Elementary Schools in Acton, Massachusetts.
She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her sisters, Patricia J. Heggie (Gerald) of Lexington, Massachusetts and Joanne J. Lowry (Kieran) of Harvard, Massachusetts and her brother, Frank Richardson Joslin Jr. of Tiverton, Rhode Island. She leaves nine nieces and nephews: Frank Richardson Joslin III of Tiverton, Rhode Island, Alice Joslin Letteri (Joseph) of Wellington, New Zealand, Suzanne Heggie Werner (Robert) of Hillsdale, NY, Charles Jenkins (Susan) of North Andover, MA, Gerald A. Heggie Jr. (Gail) of Hingham, MA, Robert Jenkins (Kelly) of Newbury, MA, Heather Heggie Green (Robert) of Chelmsford, MA, Kieran Lowry IV (Heather) of Raleigh, NC, and Justin Lowry of Portland, OR and 17 great nieces and nephews.
Ms. Joslin was an avid Shaker scholar and antique expert, and spent her busy retirement continuing her activities in both areas. She greatly enriched the lives of her family with her sense of fun, her keen intellect, her endless creativity, and her warm thoughtfulness. Aunt Nanny will be missed at all times of year, but especially at Christmas, because of her cherished cookies, and, on May Day, when she surprised her family with traditional May baskets left on their doorsteps.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made in her memory to Mount Holyoke College, c/o Cappie Glica, 50 College Street, South Hadley, MA 01075.
