Patricia C. Quinn

Mar 2, 1944 — Sep 11, 2026

Harvard, Massachusetts

Patricia Catharine Quinn, of Harvard, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, following complications related to cancer.

Born on March 2, 1944, to Theresa and John Bush in Medford, MA, Patricia was raised in Medford, Massachusetts. Shortly after graduating high school, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph novitiate, an early expression of the devotion to others she would carry into motherhood and her long career in social work.

In 1971, Patricia married her beloved Peter, her husband for 54 years. Together they raised three children, Jonathan, Matthew, and Erin, in a home filled with humor, creativity, curiosity, and love.

Patricia held the world in her heart. She gave of herself without reserve, effortlessly blending compassion, candor, and humor. Your needs were her needs, and she made sure anyone in her presence felt at ease.

She always asked. She always listened.

A hand on your shoulder in a crowded room, a knowing glance, a note, or a phone call just when you needed it…
She made sure you knew she was there.

Patricia surrounded herself with reminders of the world’s beauty and of the people who made it her own. There were always photographs to frame, plants to tend, and a four-legged companion (most recently her “pal” Lily) to share her days with. She delighted in opera and art, in books and the voices and stories of public television and radio. A piece of music that moved her was something you had to hear; a painting she admired, something you had to see; a book she loved was a book to pass along; and something newly learned was a reason to call.

In the company of friends and family, there was always more to talk about, more to understand, and more to enjoy. That joy was never more infectious than when she was with the grandchildren who called her “Nanna.”

Patricia was never finished discovering the world, or sharing what she found in it. She often opened a conversation with two familiar words:
“I marvel…”
Those two simple words hold her enduring sense of wonder, and her love remains in the notes she sent, the conversations remembered, and the lasting comfort of having been known and loved by her.

Patricia is survived by her children Erin, Matthew (and his wife Nicole), Jonathan (and his partner Maria), and Catharine Davis (and her husband James); her grandchildren Grace, Sarah, Liam, Emily, Brendan, Sophie, and Amanda; her sister, Mary Jane Hurley; her sister-in-law Paula Quinn; and her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews of whom she was so very fond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; her parents, John and Theresa Bush; and her brothers, Arthur and Jack.
