Peter Mercer Johns, MD

Peter Mercer Johns, MD of Westford, Massachusetts passed away on July 6, 2024, at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts after a prolonged illness.

 Peter was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania in 1954. He graduated from the Mercersburg Academy in 1972 and graduated from Duke University with a degree in biomechanical engineering in 1976. Peter was a member of the first class of students to graduate from the Brody School of Medicine of East Carolina University in 1981 and completed a residency in family medicine at Duke University in 1984.

Peter established Littleton Family Medicine and became a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. He served as a medical director of Littleton Schools and at the Groton School.

Peter was an avid outdoorsman, whether kayaking in the rivers of western North Carolina or roaming the woods at the family camp on Moosehead Lake in Maine. He organized and ran a trap shooting club while at the Groton School.

He is survived by a very dear friend Jeannette Shaw of Westford, MA., who provided loving care to Peter during his final days. He leaves behind a sister Susan Johns Lackey of Essex Junction, VT, and a brother Walter S Johns IV of Erie, PA.

Peter was a very kind physician who cared very much for his patients. He will be missed.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Peter during visiting hours on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton, MA. The burial will be private.
