Raymond Dominic Cacciatore, age 68, of Westford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born in Wakefield, Massachusetts, in 1956 to the late Domenico and Shirley (Parrott) Cacciatore, Ray grew up with a boundless love of learning and a knack for fixing things. He graduated from North Reading High School and went on to earn both his B.S. and Master's in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. He worked at several local companies including Lexidata, Wang Laboratories, and Avid Technology. Ray held many patents for innovations in computer graphics and video editing, but the best thing to come out of his work was meeting his wife, Mary.
Together, they built a beautiful life full of books, music, food, and travel. Ray was a devoted family man, and whether teaching his children about constellations or sharing a bottle of wine on the porch with his friends, he gave his loved ones his whole heart, and, often, a science lesson. Ray will be remembered for his intelligence, quick wit, and deep love for the people around him. He was preceded in death by his brother Dominic and sister Nicole Person. Ray is survived by his wife Mary (Schongar); daughter Emily of Zürich, Switzerland; son Peter, daughter-in-law Veronica, and grandson Yandel of Warwick, RI; sister Patricia Bolduc of Westford, MA; brother-in-law Michael Person of Wakefield, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
Evidenced by his love for donuts and the Boston Celtics, Ray was a lifelong New Englander and outside of his devotion to wine, he found joy in hiking, biking, photography, and maintaining his beloved backyard and pool. An appreciator of puzzles and word games, one of his proudest parenting moments was being dethroned as the Boggle champion by his daughter. More recently, he was thrilled to brush up on dinosaur names with his cherished grandson Yandel, thirty years after first diving into paleontology with his son. You could find Ray in the hot tub on a summer evening, sipping his latest tiki cocktail creation and mourning the Red Sox trade of Mookie Betts. His legacy includes two engineer children, kitchen drawers full of wine corks, and a home A/V setup so complicated it requires a schematic to operate.
Friends and family are invited to honor and remember Ray for a period of visitation on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 3-6 PM at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton, MA. The burial will be held privately.
