Richard R. Fuccillo

December 5, 1928 — August 7, 2014

Richard R. (Rich) Fuccillo, of Groton, died August 7,2014 at Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer. He was a resident of Groton for 62 years.

Richard was born in Boston, December 5,1928 son of the late Gaetano and Lena (Rossetti) Fuccillo. He was raised in the famous North End section of the city, an area he fondly reminisced about until his final days. After attending Boston English High, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, and was stationed for a time in Hawaii.

In 1952 he married the late Gloria A. (Boudreau) Fuccillo, whom he met while visiting his parent's cottage in the Lost Lake area of Groton. Their marriage lasted for 49 years, until her death in 2011.

Rich was employed at the Hollingsworth and Vose paper mill in West Groton for almost 40 years, where he held several jobs in the paper making process until his retirement in 1991. He was affectionately known around the mill as The Gov, a name that came about early in his employment, due to the similarity of his last name and the then Governor of Massachusetts, Foster Furcolo.

In his earlier years, Rich was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a member of the Squannacook Sportsmens Club. He could often be found hunting for deer in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont, and fishing in the local lakes and streams around Groton.

He was also skilled in working with stained glass, and made several professional quality lamp shades and smaller items.

Richard is survived by his son, Richard M. Fuccillo of Groton, and his sister Dorothy (Fuccillo) Capraro, also of Groton.
