Richard V. Nieman Jr., age 69, and a resident of Ayer, MA, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Rik is survived by his loving wife Ann Marie (Porzio) Nieman, his two daughters Jennifer (Nieman) Adams, and Tiffany (Nieman) Biker, his son Joshua Nieman, his two sons-in-law Nicholas Adams and Benjamin Biker, and will be deeply missed by his three granddaughters Emilia Marie, Lucy Nicole, and Maxine Sophia. He is predeceased by his parents, Richard Sr. and Barbara (Wilwerth) Nieman, his brothers Paul Nieman, Barry Nieman, and David Nieman.
Rik was born in Camden, NJ, on October 14, 1953. He was the oldest of nine children, and was always the first to get into mischief. He had a big sense of adventure, a big sense of humor, and was a true jack-of-all-trades. He was most proud of his job as a Computer Technician for Digital Computer Corporation, and he proudly served in the United States Navy for 6 years during the Vietnam war.
Rik was well known for his "Rik-ism's" and amusing sarcasm. He could often be seen in Hawaiian shirts, jeans, sandals with tube socks, aviator sunglasses and a variety of ball caps. He enjoyed reading books, and was an avid writer. Some of his other hobbies included golfing, fishing, traveling, swimming, watching football, playing board games and word puzzles, and being a doting "Papa" to his three granddaughters. Rik's love for his grandchildren was pure and sweet. He often called them his "medicine" and they truly lit up his life, especially during his final days.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Rik for a period of visitation on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton, MA 01460, from 2:00PM until 4:00PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 6, 2023, at Blessed Trinity - St. Anne's Parish, 75 King Street, Littleton, MA at 10:00AM. Burial will take place at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St, Winchendon, MA 01475, following Mass at 1:00PM, with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, as this cause was close to his heart. Thank you.
