Robert B. Learmonth

Robert B. Learmonth, Jr., 82, of Littleton died on September 28, 2013. He was born in Lawrence, MA on July 13, 1931 son of the late Robert and Anne (Connelly) Learmonth. Bob grew up in Concord and was a graduate of Concord High School, Class of 1949. He then attended Tilton Academy and graduated from University of New Hampshire with a degree in Criminal Justice. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a paratrooper where he received a Purple Heart. Mr. Learmonth worked as a police officer for the Town of Concord from 1955 until he retirement as Chief in 1988. During his employment he also graduated from the FBI National Academy and was a Deputy Sheriff for Middlesex County. He also served as the Eastern District Vice President for the American Society of Military Insignia Collectors Association. He later owned and operated Movers Claims Services.
Bob married Marcia (Travis) Learmonth in 1957 and made his home in Littleton since then. She died in 2009. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid sports fan. In his youth he tried out for the NE Patriots, was part of the training team for the Boston Bruins and was a goalie coach at Middlesex School in Concord, MA and UNH as well as Nashoba Tech where his grandson played. He loved to fly and skydive and had his own plane. Bob continued to "jump" and his last jump was for his 80th birthday. He enjoyed Cape Cod and took many cruises and traveled to Scotland with his wife and family.
His survivors include 2 daughters M. Jean Mickle of Concord and Laurie and her husband Harold Whitcomb of Littleton, a sister Janice and her husband George Trainor of Littleton, sister-in law Barbara House of Brentwood, Maryland, 3 grandchildren, Meghan Mickle, Kevin and Bruce Whitcomb and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of Robert Learmonth III who died in 2007.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne Church, 75 King Street, Littleton on Friday Oct 4, at 10 am. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4-8 pm at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street. Littleton. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his memory to The Bob Learmonth Sportsman Fund, C/O Middlesex Bank, Littleton, MA 01460.
