Robert J. Piché

July 29, 1945 — September 24, 2023

Groton, Massachusetts

Robert J. Piché, 78 of Groton, MA passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, September 24, 2023. Born July 29, 1945, he was the son of the late Lorraine (Jutras) Lynch. He was the beloved husband of 51 years of Donna (Mitchell) Piché and an amazing Dad to both Nicole Piché-Nicholas and Kelly Piché.

Robert was born in Westerly, RI and raised in Pawcatuck, CT, graduating from Stonington High School in 1964. He played many sports in his high school years and even medaled in the state championship for pole vaulting. After graduation, Robert joined the Air Force where he proudly served from 1964-1968. He was fortunate to be stationed in Europe where he installed computer data systems. In 1970 Robert moved to Massachusetts to work at Digital Equipment Corporation. He continued his career in IT with positions at Compaq, Fidelity, Putnam, and Simplex. However, Robert’s favorite position was at WAAF where he was a disk jockey from 1973-1978.

Robert met Donna in 1971 and immediately knew she was the one. They were married in September, 1972. Sports were a large part of Robert’s life. He enjoyed playing basketball and softball and coaching his daughters’ youth sports. He took pride that he was a certified basketball referee for 29 years. Robert’s other passions included playing guitar and piano, creating artwork particularly pen and ink, and serving on the Groton Cable Advisory Committee. But Robert’s greatest passion was being a Dad and a Pepé and spending time with his family.

Robert is survived by his wife Donna (Mitchell) Piché; his daughter Nicole Piché-Nicholas and husband Joshua Nicholas of Waltham; his daughter Kelly Piché and husband Joseph Aubin of Hollis, NH; grandchildren Sierra and Caroline Nicholas, Renee and Lucas Aubin; sisters Julie (Lynch) Ugalde and Joanne (Lynch) Verzillo and brothers Michael Lynch and Mark Lynch; as well as many loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Robert is also predeceased by his mother Lorraine (Jutras) Lynch, his grandmother Blanche Cherenzia, his Aunt Jeanette Germain, and many friends and in-laws near and dear to his heart.

Robert was a music enthusiast. We’d like to close with this line from one of his favorite songs, “Nights in White Satin” by the Moody Blues. “Just what you want to be, You will be in the end. And I love you; Yes, I love you; Oh, how I love you.”

Robert will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

In honor of Robert's life, a visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 3 from 4:00PM -7:00PM at the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School St., Groton, MA. A memorial service will be on Wednesday, October 4 at 10:00AM at the First Parish Church, 1 Powderhouse Road, Groton, MA.
