Robert C. Russell

Robert C. Russell, age 92, a longtime resident and active in Pepperell Town Government, passed away on December 11, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH after a long amazing life. He was the husband of the late Gertrude B. (Hugron) Russell who died in 2003 after 61 years of marriage.

He was born August 30, 1920 in Methuen, MA son of the late Leo and Irene H. (Boulia) Russell. He was educated in the Pepperell School System and graduated from Pepperell High School with the class of 1935. Mr. Russell served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was employed for 37 years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Department of Public Safety as a District Engineering Inspector. After retirement, he worked at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell as Chief Engineer for 15 years. He was active in Pepperell Town Government where he served as constable up until his passing, gas inspector, Housing Authority for 37 years, Board of Health, Selectman, and Veterans Agent. The Town of Pepperell proclaimed December 5, 2011 as Robert Russell Day. He also served on the Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Institute of Plant Engineers and the National Association of Power Engineers. Mr. Russell was also employed by Peterson School of Steam Engineering where he taught continuing education. He was a member of the VFW Pepperell Post #3291, Beacon Lodge #175, and the Masonic Caleb Butler Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Ayer, MA.

He is survived by a son, Robert L. Russell of Lowell, two grandsons, Todd Russell, and Jason Russell and his wife Kristen all of Pepperell, five great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, his loving companion Rose Donnelly and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visiting hours at the MARCHAND FUNERAL HOME, 16 Pleasant St., Pepperell on Friday from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial at Hillside Cemetery, Townsend, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Tribute Program, P.O Box 1000 Dept. 142, Tribute number 32235315, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
