Robert Bruce Smith

HarvardRobert “Bruce” Smith, 71 of Harvard, died at his home on January 20, 2016 with his family surrounding him. He was born in Boston on December 8, 1944, son of the late Albert and Ruth (Peoples) Smith. He grew up in Medford and Reading where he was a world class sailor in high school. He graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology, in Rochester New York. Bruce worked in the printing industry his entire life starting at the age of 7, delivering for his father’s printing company, Smith and Welch in Boston. He went on to work as a Printing Salesman at Crawford Press and Universal Printing.Bruce served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He bred English Bulldogs for over 40 years raising many champions. He was a well-known A.K.C. judge of English and French Bulldogs, Boston Terriers and Dalmatians. Bruce was honored to judge the National Bulldog Club of America, the Santa Barbara Shows and the Japanese National Bulldog Show as well as many other shows across the United States. Bruce was a member of the Eastern Dog Club, the Bulldog of America, The New England Bulldog Club and The Maine Bulldog Club. He held many positions ranging from President, Vice- President, Show Chairman for each club. He was the Treasurer of the French Bulldog Club Charitable Gift Fund Bruce is survived by his wife Gail Stokes-Smith of Harvard, his children Sean and his wife Mary Ross of North Carolina, Alex Chardo of Maine, Mindy and her husband Joe Atwood of Harvard, Sarah and her husband Ian MacLellan of Melrose and Sean Natinsky of Holyoke. He loved and cherished his grandchildren: Corporal Brendan Cook USMC, Lance Corporal Evan Cook USMC, Zane and Kindred Atwood, Brody and Kenzie MacLellan and Dylan Chardo.
