Roger S. Benson, 58, of Groton died unexpectedly at Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, MA on July 15, 2014. He was born in Orange, NJ, on December 5, 1955, son of Fredanna (Lieberman) Benson of Sudbury, MA and the late Robert Benson.
Roger grew up in Natick and was a graduate of Natick High School. He later graduated from Northeastern University with a BS degree in Biology/Chemistry and obtained a F.A.A. Airframe and Power Plant License from East Coast Aero Technical School. He became an accomplished woodworker and photographer, and enjoyed many outdoor activities including skiing, hiking, cycling and kayaking, ice skating and hockey
He worked as a Package Design Engineer for most of his life. He was most recently employed by Hittite Microwave Corporation as a project engineer. He was Vice President of IMAPS Foundation of New England (International Microelectronics Assembly and Packaging Society). Early in his career he worked for Digital Corporation and Raytheon Company. More recently, he was employed by International Rectifier, Skyworks Solutions and Conexant Systems. Roger, his wife, Kathy and two daughters made Groton, MA their home since 2002. Prior to that, the family lived in Upton, MA, Phoenix, AZ and Simi Valley, CA.
Roger is survived by his wife Kathy (Parliment) Benson, daughters Rachel and Marisa Benson, mother, Fredanna Benson of Sudbury, MA, a brother, Joseph Benson and wife, Anita DeFelice of Framingham, MA and nephew, Robert DeFelice-Benson.
A Memorial Service will take place at the First Parish Unitarian Church, Powderhouse Road, Groton, MA at 2 pm on Sunday 7/20/2014. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Trustees of Reservation and The First Parish Church. Of Groton, MA . Please see www.badgerfuneral for further details.
