RONALD J. GODDARD Devoted and Loving Son, Brother and Uncle
LITTLETON – Ronald J. Goddard, 61, a member of a well-known Littleton family, died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 7th at Tufts Medical Center in Boston following a brief illness.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on September 12, 1963, the son of Ronald P. and Ann (Donohue) Goddard, Ronald attended Littleton Public Schools, graduating from Littleton High School in 1982. He went on to graduate with honors from the University of Massachusetts–Amherst in 1986.
Following college, Ron first worked for many years as a bartender and manager in the hospitality industry for several well-known restaurants. He then began a successful business career as an account manager with PUMA North America, first in Westford, MA and then in Somerville, MA. Ron was well-regarded and loved by all with whom he worked, especially for his kindness and courtesy.
He continued to tend bar part-time for many years, where his ability to connect with people was legendary. He was an incredibly kind listener with a dry, easy wit. He gave excellent advice when asked and none when he wasn’t. He was an expert in his craft but not a show-off. He took good care of his “regulars” as well as first time customers.
Ron’s passions in life were family and playing golf, in that order. Growing up in a tightly-knit family, he shared a special closeness with his parents and siblings. As time passed, he would never miss an opportunity to get together with family and friends to root for Boston’s sports teams (especially the Celtics) and share stories and laughter. Golf was his favorite pastime and one that enabled him to establish many lifelong friendships that he held dear. He especially loved his golfing trips to Myrtle Beach with his brothers and friends and in recent years, thoroughly enjoyed golfing with his nephews.
Ron is survived by his siblings, who loved him beyond measure; two brothers, Timothy Goddard and his wife Kathleen of Littleton, Patrick Goddard and his wife Betsy of Simsbury, CT; and two sisters, Maura Goddard of Holden and Martha Johnson and her husband Eric of Littleton. Ron is also survived by his dear nieces and nephews who were his greatest pride and joy; Vanessa and Isabella Goddard, Daniel Johnson, Matthew Johnson and his wife Kate, Michael Goddard and his wife Kate, Sarah Early and her husband Billy, and Joseph Goddard. He is also survived by two great-nieces: Bridget Goddard and Natalie Early.
Ron is predeceased by his beloved parents, Ann D. and Ronald P. Goddard, and brothers Michael J. Goddard, and Kevin P. Goddard. In lieu of flowers donations in Ron’s memory may be made to the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, 300 Arnold Palmer Boulevard, Norton, MA 02766.
