Sharon Ilene Martel, born March 21, 1954, in Claremont, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025. She was a creative and loving soul who left a remarkable imprint on the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. Ambitious and deeply dedicated, Sharon expressed her talent and creativity through a distinguished career as the Assistant Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Education for the Town of Littleton, where she served the community with passion and commitment for over two decades. Sharon attended Chandler School in Boston MA where she made lifelong friendships and memories. While she loved her work, her greatest joy was always her family.
An exceptional woman with an infectious love for life and adventure, Sharon grew up in Cavendish, Vermont, where she met the love of her life, Steve, in 1979. Their love story began in Vermont and blossomed over the years, eventually leading them to make their home in Littleton, Massachusetts.
Sharon’s love for the outdoors and simple pleasures was reflected in her many passions. In her younger years, Sharon treasured summers with her family at Lake Seymour and winter days skiing with friends at Okemo Mountain. Later on, she found joy in collecting seashells on Sanibel Island, Florida, enjoying long, peaceful walks, and immersing herself in books. Her creative spirit shone brightly through her paintings, handcrafted jewelry, and handmade birdhouses, many of which she lovingly created for friends, neighbors, and members of the community. Sharon held a special love for Rye Beach, New Hampshire, where she could be found enjoying a summer day with her closest family members, especially her sister.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Stephan Martel; her cherished daughters, Kimball Martel (Noelle Benavides) and Elizabeth Bengston (Ryan Bengston); step daughters, Alicia Tarbell and Krista Baker; her caring sister, Susan Thibeault (Tom Thibeault); and her first grandchild, born on December 1st, Lucy Rose Bengston, whom she would have adored. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Verna Rutledge.
