Sonya D. Prince

August 10, 1972 — April 22, 2022

Sonya D. Prince, 49, a resident of Fitchburg Massachusetts died Friday April 22, 2022 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Sonya was born on August 10, 1972, in Fitchburg Massachusetts a daughter to the late David Prince and Tina Lefebrve (Cochran), and was raised by Tina and her partner Stephen Atkins. She attended and graduated from Monty Tech Vocational School where she developed a passion for Culinary Arts. Sonya worked for many years at Fitchburg State University for Chartwell where she excelled in the Culinary Arts field; she was fondly referred to as the "Pizza Queen". Her true pride and joy were her children and being a mom to Eddie, Shannel and Malik is what she lived for. As her children grew older and had children of their own, Sonya's heart grew bigger. Family meant everything.

Sonya enjoyed spending her free time at her summer home in Wells, Maine, she would sit in her lanai trying to figure out how many sprinkles to give out for the day. Summers there made great memories with amazing friends and family. When she was not out on her lanai, Sonya enjoyed working on sudokus or going on tropical vacations with her very close friends. In the last year of Sonya's battle with cancer, friends helped her check off many items from her bucket list. Some of these adventures included a horse drawn carriage ride through downtown Boston, trips to Siesta Key and Dominican Republic, parasailing, and a getaway trip to a snow covered mountain resort, just to list a few. Even though Sonya was taken away too soon, she truly lived her life.

Sonya is predeceased by her mother Tina Lefebrve, her father David Prince, and her daughter Shannel Ortiz. She is survived by her two sons Eddie Ortiz and Malik Ward, both grandmothers Irene Prince and Elsa Cochran, brother Matt Atkinson, sister Jane Hampson, step-brother Dave Fortin, daughter in-law Melissa Arlet, her five beautiful grandchildren, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She also leaves behind her boyfriend of over twelve years, Manny.

Sonya was a beautiful woman, inside and out. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
