Stephen (Steve) Scott Wheeler, age 62 years, of Westford, Massachusetts passed away at home on January 19, 2017 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lowell, MA on November 24, 1954, he was the youngest of the ten children of the late Mary and James Wheeler of Westford.
Steve attended the Westford public school system and was a graduate of Nashoba Valley Technical High School. He was a master mechanic and heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4 for twenty years.
Steve was an avid Harley Davidson rider and he had operated the JR Wheeler Motorcycle Shop for several years, providing motorcycle service and repairs and building custom motorcycles. He was co-founder of Baystate Harley Pullers, creating and riding custom motorcycles for the unique sport of motorcycle pulling. His hobbies included antique car restorations, RVing, fishing and long motorcycle rides, including trips cross-country and to Alaska.
Steve is survived by his by loving sister Janet Wheeler of Westford, MA, brothers Richard Wheeler of Littleton, MA, Wayne Wheeler and sister-in-law Nancy of Littleton, MA, Allan Wheeler of Jacksonville, FL, David Wheeler and sister-in-law Krystal of Ashby, MA, Robert Wheeler and sister-in-law Karen of Amherst, NH, Ronald Wheeler of Grafton, NH, stepson Kris Loranger and grandson Ryder Loranger of Dracut, MA, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother Floyd Wheeler of Ashby, MA and sister Audrey Wheeler Wickman of Macedon, NY.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Steve on Thursday, January 26 from 5:00-8:00 pm in the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton. Burial will be private.
