Thomas George Nelson

Thomas George Nelson, 90, of Littleton died on January 22, 2014 at Emerson hospital in Concord. He was born in Cambridge on October 14, 1923, son of the late George and Catherine (Cullen) Nelson and was the husband of the late Melba (Sawtell) Nelson who died in 1997. He grew up in Cambridge and was a graduate of Rindge Technical School. Tom was drafted into the Army after high school during WWII. He served in Europe in the 168th Combat Engineers. He was at the Battle of the Bulge and was taken as a prisoner of war in Germany. Tom received a Bronze Star, Silver Star, and several Purple Heart medals for his valor. After the war he worked as a carpenter for most of his life and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 40.

He made his home in Littleton for over sixty years, and was a member of Littleton VFW Post, Disabled Veterans, and Order of the Purple Heart. He enjoyed gardening and watching football.

Mr. Nelson is survived by a son Michael Nelson of Oakton VA, three daughters Patricia Wolf of Leominster, Susan LaBarre of West Chesterfield, NH, and Mary Burbine of Littleton, a sister Marion Nelson of Cambridge, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Visiting hours will be held at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton on Monday, January 27, 2014 from 5-7 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 9:30 am. Burial will be at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon, MA.
