Virginia (Wooding) Towse Butler, 90, of Groton died at the Golden Living Center in Fitchburg, MA on May 31, 2015. She was born in Arlington, MA on Dec 1. 1924 daughter of the late James and Marion (Faulkner) Wooding and was the wife of the late Daniel Towse and Mark Butler Jr.
She grew up in Brookline, MA and was a graduate of Brookline High School Class of 1943. Virginia married Daniel Towse in 1943 and he died during WW2. She then married Mark Butler Jr in 1947. She made her home in Billerica from 1948 until 1969 and then moved to Groton. She worked J. P. Sullivan Apple Packing for 15 years then as kitchen help at Groton School for several years.
Mrs. Butler was very patriotic as a Gold Star Widow and had a love for dancing, she danced for the USO all over the Eastern Seaboard during WW2 to entertain the troops. In later years she taught country line dancing to senior citizens in nursing homes to entertain the residents. She also enjoyed braiding rugs and sewing.
She is survived by her children Donald Butler of Fitchburg William Butler of Pepperell,, Richard Butler of Townsend , Carol Jones of Lunenburg and Diane Butler of Lowell, 19 Grandchildren and 27 Great Grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late David Butler and the sister of the late James Wooding, William Wooding, Leonard Wooding and Esther Ingersoll.
Funeral Services will be held at the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School Street, Groton, on Thursday June 4, 2015 at 11 am. Visiting Hours will be from 9-11 prior to the service.
