Virginia Ann Terrell

July 28, 1941 — December 28, 2024

Littleton, Massachusetts

Virginia “Ginny” Ann Terrell was born to Stanley and Grace Tonicki on July 28, 1941, and was reunited in heaven with her dear mother and her beloved friends Carl, Fern, and June on December 28, 2024. She was deeply loved by her husband Warren, to whom she was married for 59 years.

Ginny grew up with her sister Joy in Waltham, Massachusetts. The day before her graduation from Waltham High in 1959, she saw a young man working onstage as part of the AV crew for Class Day ceremonies. Even though she was dating someone else, she said to a friend, “I have a feeling I’m going to marry that man.” Two years later, Ginny and Warren had their first date, and four years after that, in 1965, they were married.

Ginny and Warren found their forever home and raised their daughters Amy and Heidi in Littleton, Massachusetts. While the girls were little, Ginny devoted herself full-time to their care. Once Heidi was old enough, Ginney returned to the paid workforce as a teaching assistant in elementary schools, first in Littleton and later in Groton. She loved second graders the best. For the eight years her daughters were in college, she worked full-time at a higher paying job at Digital Equipment Corporation, devoting all but $6 of each paycheck to the college tuition fund. This enormous effort allowed both Amy and Heidi to graduate from college debt-free, and spoke of Ginny’s belief in the transformative power of education.

Ginny loved being active and outside. She and Warren skied, hiked, picked blueberries, went snowshoeing, made maple syrup, collected greens to make their own wreaths, gardened, raked, and picnicked in all kinds of weather. Most of all she loved walking, and even after a busy day of work or chores, she would brightly suggest that a walk would be nice. In retirement, Ginny and Warren completed six long walks in England’s Lake District, the Cotswolds, and the Yorkshire Dales, and in New Zealand. For their 50th anniversary, they took the entire family to Newfoundland, a trip filled with breathtaking scenery, icebergs, and whales.

Above all, Ginny loved being on Prince Edward Island. After vacationing there for many years, she and Warren built a summer cottage on Salutation Cove in Lower Bedeque. Ginny loved the community there, where people would pop in for a cup of tea and a chat, and were always helpful. She loved going for long walks at low tide, looking for sand dollars, and wading through the warm water. PEI was truly a second home, a place of great peace and contentment. It is there that her ashes will be scattered.

In addition to her husband, sister and daughters, Ginny leaves her much loved sons-in-law Simon and Rob, and grandchildren Ethan, Olivia, Ben, and Ian.
