William "Bill" Henry Compton age 85 and longtime resident of Littleton passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved and devoted husband of 58 years to Margaret Ruth (MacPherson) Compton.
Bill was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada on August 11, 1933 the son of the late Milton and Catherine (MacLean) Compton.
Bill and Margaret married on November 5, 1960 in Valleyfield, Prince Edward Island then moved to Concord until 1967 when they settled in Littleton. Bill worked for many years as a gravel truck driver in PEI then when he moved to Concord, he became a talented stone mason with EA Comeau in Concord, he moved on to work with the Town of Acton until his retirement. He belonged to the Congregational Church of Littleton and was a longtime member of Corinthian Lodge A.F & A.M in Concord.
Bill loved his family, his wife, children and grandchildren most important, and he was so proud of all of them. He enjoyed cheering his grandchildren on at their sporting events and seeing them graduate from high school and college. He played hockey when he was young and loved to skate. He was an avid reader and enjoyed riding his bike and taking his daily walks. He loved to listen to music and taught himself to play the fiddle. Bill loved life and spending time telling stories of the past and making people laugh at his jokes. He always wanted to learn something new and instilled his work ethic and love of God to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed trips to PEI to see family and work on his land, he was a true Canadian.
Along with his wife he is survived by his devoted children, Gail M. Kane of Concord and Mark W. Compton of Moultonborough, NH, his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Brittany, Molly, John and Daniel. He is also survived by his sisters Grace Foote of PEI, Anna Dodsworth and her husband Lester of PEI, his in-laws, Christine and David Wilson of Littleton, Alice and Michael Grim of California, Wayne MacPherson of Nova Scotia, Jean Dorion, Margaret and Blair MacPherson, Joanne and Garry MacPherson all of PEI, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Florence Nicholson.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Bill on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Congregational Church of Littleton 330 King St., Littleton. Private burial at Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton.
