Scarborough, Maine - William F. Pillsbury, 85, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at home. He was born on January 19th, 1929 in Pepperell, Massachusetts, the son of Leo A. and Catherine McGrath Pillsbury. He served in the Air Force from 1947 to 1950. William was a union carpenter. He worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Corrections as a maintenance supervisor for 20 years. He was on the Pepperell Fire Department. William belonged to the Littleton-Westford Elks, Lodge 1891. In 1982, he was selected as Elk of the Year. He was a successful harness horse owner, trainer and driver and belonged to the United States Trotting Association. In 2007, he was given the Iron Man award by that organization. He was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley M. Pillsbury, his parents, brothers Leo and Edward, sisters Marion Morrissey and Mildred Robbins. He is survived by his wife Carroll J. Tiernan; children Pamela Jean Murphy (husband Dan), William F. Pillsbury, Jr., Helen M. Aliot (husband Bob), Kevin P. Pillsbury and stepson Gerry Tiernan (wife Genevieve); grandchildren Dan and Jessica Murphy, Nicholas Drew, Leah Bozza, Patricia and Adam Pillsbury and Alison Pillsbury, Jack and Stella Tiernan; 7 great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother James Pillsbury and his sister Gertrude Hartnett (husband Frank); and by good friends Don Chapman, Stanley and Barbara Libby. Visiting hours will be held at Marchand Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Pepperell, Mass. on Tuesday, April 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial service will be at the Marchand Funeral Home on Wednesday, April, 23rd at 10:00 a.m., followed by burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Pepperell. Arrangements in Maine were under the guidance of Hobbs Funeral Home, Scarborough.
